$2 Frappuccino’s after 2 pm!

Fru-gal here. I’m coming out of my hiatus because to bring you a spectacular deal on Starbucks (and because my friends ask me all the time “where’s the Fru-Gal?!).

Here’s the scoop, get yourself to a Safeway that has a Starbucks kiosk inside for $2 grande frappuccino’s after 2 pm. That’s more than 50% off their regular price of $4.50 and up! The deal is valid anytime between 2 pm and closing time from today, May 25 through Monday, May 28. By the way, this deal is also good at Safeway’s other stores like Tom Thumb, Randall’s, Von’s, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Pavilions and Carr’s.

So go grab yourself some Mocha-frappa-whata-no-whip-choco-deliciousness this Memorial Day weekend!

And just because… Currently listening to: A Big Hunk O’ Love by Elvis Presley.

There’s money hiding in your refrigerator!

I know it sounds funny, but it’s the truth. Every time you go to the grocery store, farmers market, Costco, etc. and buy food, you’re investing your money in the foods you buy. The next time you go to the store, look in your fridge and think about how much each item costs. It might look something like this:

Quart of Organic Milk: $4.50

Head of Romaine: $1

6 oz. Greek Yogurt: $1.25 each

Jar of Pasta Sauce: $3

Orange Juice: $4.50

That’s almost $15 for just a few items! All of these things expire at some point. Let’s say they do expire and you’ve only eaten half of each of them. Now you have to throw them away. You’re throwing away more than $7. Now, grab your wallet and pull out $7 and put it in the trash. If your stomach hurts just thinking about pulling money out of your wallet and throwing it away then you need this post! (I also need some tums. I can’t bear the thought of throwing money away!)

I got this little tip from a blog I follow called Savvy Housekeeping. Ms. Savvy has tons of tips from DIY, cooking, cleaning, decorating and much more. To save money on food items, she suggests making one of these:

It’s an “Eat Me First Box.” Simply place all of the foods in your refrigerator that are close to their expiration date in the box. When you’re digging around your refrigerator looking for something to eat, just grab something out of the box and know that you’re saving money since you wont be throwing these items away in the near future!

What do you think? Easy enough? Do you have something like this in your fridge? Has it worked for you? I also think an “Eat Me First Box” in the pantry would be nice. I would put opened bags of crackers, cereals, nuts, etc. in it. (I might label my box “Eat Me” just to see what my guests say when they open my fridge.)

Another great way to save money is to utilize your freezer! So many foods can be frozen and thawed and taste as good as new. Whenever I open a jar of pasta or pizza sauce I’m always left with half a jar. Instead of putting it back in the refrigerator (and waiting for it to grow a moldy, slimy layer on top when I finally pull it out of the fridge 3 months later since it got sucked into the black hole that is the back of my refigerator) I immediately place it in a plastic zip top bag, label it and freeze it! Your sauces will never go bad again! This is also great for nuts as they have lots of oil in them that will cause them to spoil. Just toss them in the freezer and they’ll be fresh when you need them! Did you buy fresh meat or fish that’s nearing it expiration date? Freeze it! I often buy meat and fish in bulk so I usually freeze about 3/4 of it when I get home from the store. Do you have any citrus that’s nearing the end of its shelf life? Juice them and freeze the juice! I’m always using fresh lemon juice in recipes and this way I always have it on hand.

What are your favorite ways to save money in the kitchen? I would love to hear your tips and tricks!

Kick up your boots for Stagecoach 2012!

This year my friends and I are heading to Indio, California for the annual Stagecoach Music Festival. This year the headlining acts will be Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Jason Aldean! I really can’t contain my excitement for this show and its not until the end of April!

To get into the spirit of the festival I’ve been thinking about what I should wear to this show. I enjoy country music but I’m not much of a cowgirl. At all. (I’m afraid of horses.) When I think about the festival I picture a bunch of cute little cowgirls dressed in daisy dukes, plaid button downs and cowgirl boots. I don’t own any of these… eek!

If you’re going to a country show this year (I hear the Tim McGraw/Kenny Chesney tour is going to be amazing!) and you want to get started on your cowgirl get-up, head over to Ruelala today to check out their selection of super cute cowgirl boots.

There are so many styles and colors to choose from. (Who knew cowgirl boots came in purple?!) Here are a few:

Head on over to Ben’s Outlet today to find great deals on lots of electronics and free shipping!

Ben’s Outlet is part of 1SaleADay, another great daily deal website that I love. They offer different products everyday at rock bottom prices.

Today they are offering an amazing deal on a Samsung Bluetooth earpiece. The original price was $99.99, but on Ben’s Outlet it’s only $14.99! But that’s not all, there is a manufacturer’s rebate you can download on the site for $20.00! That makes this little baby a MONEYMAKER!

Who doesn’t want to get paid for new gadgets?

Note: You can file one rebate request per item you purchase, but you can  file up to three rebates per household when you buy three earpieces.

They are also having a sale on the BlackBerry Playbook Tablet:

Original Price: $599.99.  Ben’s Outlet price: $279.99.

Pandigital Google Android Tablet:

Original Price: $299.99. Ben’s Outlet Price: $69.99.

All three of these items are listed as “Brand New” but Ben’s Outlet does sell some items that are listed as “Factory Refurbished.” Make sure you check each item under Specifications so you know what you’re getting.

Speaking of Refurbished items, they are also selling an 64 GB Apple IPad that is “Apple Refurbished” for $479.99.

And if you’re not into all these electronics, you could always opt for these Kenneth Cole Aviators:

Original Price: $99.99. Ben’s Outlet Price: $9.99.

There are also tons of other deals on Ben’s Outlet today so make sure you check it out!

It’s better to give than to receive

Are you looking for a great way to give to others during the holiday season? I know it can be difficult with the economy the way that it is now to give to others when you may be struggling yourself. Well, you’re in luck. This week at CVS there is a great opportunity to donate a brand new (and very popular) toy to a child in need.

Have you heard of Zhu Zhu Pets? They are these little hampster toys that look like this:

The Four Zhu Zhus

Cute, right? See the little button on their nose? They make noise when you push it. And after educating myself further (ahem, watching YouTube videos) I found out that they move and kids make little hamster runs for them just like a real hampster. Honestly, some genius thought these little guys up. What parent wouldn’t love their child to have a “pet” that they don’t have to clean up after, take to the vet, feed, etc? And they can just turn them off at the end of the day! Genius!

Anyway, let’s get to the deal! Head over to CVS this week and scan your ExtraCare Card. If you don’t have one, sign up for one at a register. Then head over to the scanning kiosks and scan your card. The kiosk will print out coupons for you to use in your next purchases. Scan your card as many times as you can until it stops giving you coupons. You should have a coupon for a $0.99 Zhu Zhu Pet! These little hampsters cost $9.89 at regular price! What a great deal!

Now, this deal gets even better on Dec. 18 when Zhu Zhu Pets are Buy One Get One FREE! That means you can buy 2 Zhu Zhu Pets for just $0.99! That’s just $0.49 cents each. A savings of $18.97. What a great way to get two great toys for two kids who might otherwise not have gifts on Christmas.

Now, where should you take your donation? Click here to see all of the Toys for Tots donation stations in Santa Clara County.   (Or, click here if you don’t live in Santa Clara County.) There are tons of drop-off stations all around the county and multiple in each city. You shouldn’t have to drive more than a mile or two to find one close to you. Make sure you check the collection dates on the website. Most collection stations collect until Dec. 20, but some don’t, so make sure you choose one that is still collecting. Also, Toys for Tots requests all toys be new and unwrapped so there’s no need to wrap the gift!

Unfortunately I’m not sure how long this deal will last. I found this deal tonight and the coupon was going to expire tomorrow. It’s also possible that the coupon will only print through tomorrow, Dec. 18. So if you can, don’t wait to grab this deal!

If you have any questions about how to get this deal or if you know another great way to make a donation this holiday season, please comment below!

Coffee Lovers Rejoice! Starbucks Deals Galore!

This post is especially for my wonderful friend Christine. Not only did she host a fantastic girl’s weekend at her apartment in San Francisco, but she is the reason I am writing this post. She encouraged me to keep up with this blog and continue to bring readers fantastic ways to save money. Also, she is from Seattle and LOVES coffee. Starbucks coffee in particular. Christine, drink to your heart’s desire 🙂

First of all, you must go to Starbucks.com to view their adorable Holiday themed welcome page! And have your sound turned up! So cute! Click on a few of the links in the top menu. Each one has a different holiday animation. Love it!

Okay, now it’s time to give and SAVE! Click on “The Perfect Gift” tab at the top of the page and when the menu pops up, click “Send an e-gift.” What you’ll need to do is add four $5 gift cards to your shopping cart and you will earn a FREE $5 gift card for yourself! Go ahead, send them to your mom, dad, sister, brother… Okay, who am I kidding? Send them to yourself 🙂 However, if you do want to send them to friends/family members, you can have the e-gift sent at a later day so it arrives in their inbox on Christmas or another special day! Cool, huh?

Once you have added all four e-gifts to your cart and inputted your billing information (you will not be charged yet) there will be a note at the top of the page that says “Congrats! You have qualified to receive your own $5 Starbucks eGift from Visa.” The e-gift will be sent to you email within 24 hours. Yay! Free coffee! Or in Christine’s case, Caramel Apple Cider!

(Bottom line: Pay $20, receive $25 worth of gift cards! That’s 25% more coffee! And let’s face it, you were probably going to spend $20 at Starbucks anyway.)

NOTE: Some people who have tried this deal have said it only works when using a VISA. However, others have used PayPal and have said it still worked. I used a VISA just to be safe.

Now, don’t think that’s all the coffee goodness I have for you today! Go to Target before Dec. 10 to score this great deal on bagged Starbucks coffee:

Starbucks Roast Ground Coffee, 12 oz $7.99, On Sale thru 12/10
Buy 3 bags of Starbucks coffee, Receive $5.00 Target Gift Card automatically at checkout
Use $3.00 off 2 bags of Starbucks Coffee coupon from Smart Source from Dec. 4
And use $1.00 off 1 bag of Starbucks Coffee coupon from Smart Source from Dec. 4
Pay $19.97, Receive $5.00 Target Gift Card AND go here to redeem for a $5 starbucks gift card! Woot woot!

Final Price: $3.32 each when you buy 3 – That’s more than a 50% savings!

(Note: to receive the $5 starbucks gift card on this deal, you must purchase either three of either 10,11, 12 or 20 oz. ground or whole beans OR 6, 7 or 8 count Stabucks Via Ready Brew. All purchases must be made in the same transaction between the dates of 11/1 and 12/31)

And here’s one more way to get your Starbucks fix for cheap! Text MERRY to 697289 to get daily deals at Starbucks through December 12th! If you don’t want to receive text messages, you can go here to view each daily deal. Tomorrow’s deal is $9.95 for a Sampler Gift Pack of Starbucks Coffee (Regular Price: $14.95) And Tuesday’s deal is $7.95 for Holiday Tumblers (Regular Price: $10.95-$11.95).

That should keep your java buzz going at least until Christmas, right?

BOGO Starbucks Holiday Drinks!

My boyfriend and I usually stop by Starbucks on Sundays to pick up 4 Sunday papers (gotta get those coupons!) and he usually buys a plain black coffee to keep him going for the rest of his workday. Every once in a while we’ll get a latte to share. We never splurge for the fancy stuff, but I do love Starbucks’ holiday drinks. I just can’t justify a medium size coffee drink for the same amount as my 4 Sunday papers! (The drink costs about $3.45 and 4 papers cost $4.00.)

However, Starbucks has solved our dilemma (at least for this weekend)!

Starting today at 2 pm, when you buy a holiday drink you can get another of equal or lesser value for FREE. What are “holiday drinks” you ask? They include:  “Peppermint Mocha, new Skinny Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, Gingerbread Latte and Eggnog Latte.”

I think I’ll grab a Skinny Peppermint Mocha. What about you? Comment below!

Need a reason to sign up for freebies?

If you ever needed a reason to sign up for freebies, here it is! Look at all the awesome stuff I got in the mail today FOR FREE!

On the left is a box of three playtex feminine items and a $1.00 coupon for a future purchase. Everyone needs them, so why not get them for free?

On the right is a beauty bag from Target. Who knew target sends out freebies like this? All these samples came in the cutest little makeup bag. The samples include shampoo and conditioner samples from Garnier Fructis, John Freida and Tresseme. There was also a Olay Regerist Moisturizer sample and 5 ponds makeup remover towlettes. There was also a coupon booklet with about 15 Target beauty coupons inside that can be “stacked” with manufacturer’s coupons for great deals! However, the coupons expire tomorrow 😦 Maybe my beauty bag was delayed in shipping or something because it seems odd the coupons would expire so soon. Maybe I’ll sneak over to target tomorrow to see if I can score any good deals before these expire!

I also signed up for a few perfume and cologne samples and sent my friend Lauren a Kleenex sample pack a few weeks ago. What a fun little treat for her (or in this case, her boyfriend) to find in their mailbox 🙂

You may be deterred from signing up for freebies thinking you’ll get a lot of junk mail or that the companies will sell your information. I haven’t received any additional junk mail since signing up for these freebies.

It’s so much fun to get free stuff in the mail! It’s like an early Christmas gift!

Have you gotten any freebies lately? Comment below!
